The Seattle legal community raised $105,000 for youth music education programs at the second annual Law Rocks concert, held at The Crocodile on September 25. The event featured six amateur bands composed of legal professionals from various Seattle law firms competing in a fundraising concert described by organizers as an epic battle of the bands. Law Rocks is an international foundation with a mission to fund music education for underprivileged youth, partnering with local nonprofit organizations in each host city. The organization has raised $9 million and toured to 31 cities across five continents since implementing its Music Matters grant program, which supports music education in underserved communities.
Founder Nick Child stated that the goal is to raise money for those less fortunate while giving the legal industry the chance to realize their potential as rock stars. The event featured prominent sponsorship from local legal firms, including Herschensohn Law Firm, whose attorneys also served as judges for the competition. The Overall Winner and Hustle & Heart Award went to The Funk Docket, featuring legal talent from Schroeter Goldmark & Bender, The Law Offices of Edward H. Moore, Keller Rohrback, and L.M. Jones, which performed to benefit the Academy for Creating Excellence (ACE). The Judges' Choice Award was awarded to The Lumberjax, featuring legal talent from Christensen O'Connor Johnson Kindness, who performed for Teen Talking Circles.
With over 600 tickets sold for this year's event, organizers anticipate even higher turnout for the 2026 concert. The substantial fundraising success means most of the $105,000 will remain in the local community to benefit youth, addressing critical gaps in music education access for underprivileged students. This initiative represents a growing trend of professional communities leveraging their networks and resources to support arts education, particularly important as school budgets for music programs continue to face constraints nationwide. The event demonstrates how targeted philanthropic efforts can directly impact community needs while engaging professionals in creative fundraising activities.
